The prosecutor’s office in Sweden has filed an indictment against activist Greta Thunberg

Prosecutors in Sweden filed charges against climate activist Greta Thunberg with defying law police in connection with a rally in Malmo last month

According to the local daily Sydsvenskan, Thunberg and other protestors were arrested on June 19 after they blocked traffic at the port’s oil terminal in Malmo.

Prosecutors in Sweden stated in a brief statement on Wednesday that a “young woman” was charged with insubordination because she “refused to comply with police orders to leave the scene” during the protest.

The subject was not named in the statement, but Swedish Prosecutor’s Office spokeswoman Annika Collin confirmed it was Thunberg.

According to the Swedish newspaper Sydsvenskan, the 20-year-old activist will be summoned to court at the end of July.

According to a Swedish prosecutor, the allegation of disobedience is normally penalised by fines.

Thunberg’s PR team did not react quickly to a request for comment.

After organising weekly protests outside the Swedish Parliament beginning in 2018, Thunberg inspired a global youth movement advocating for increased measures to prevent climate change.

Activist Thunberg was arrested earlier this year by German police while protesting the proposed demolition of a town to make room for the construction of a coal mine.

She was discharged the following day.
